Report for Week Ending Sun, August 16

Greetings, this is Mister Ex reporting on the fortunes of our former Toronto Blue Jays. Randal Grichuk, who last wore the Jays’ uniform in 2021, lit up his recent outings with a .462 average and a league‑leading .846 slugging percentage, while Ty France, a 2025 graduate of the club, collected eight hits in six games and posted a .945 OPS. Bo Bichette, still fresh in the memory of Jays fans from his long stint through 2025, contributed a respectable .333 average and 1.011 OPS, and rookie‑ish outfielder Alan Roden added a sparkling .429 clip in limited action. Relievers Jordan Romano and Josh Walker both posted spotless ERAs, with Walker’s stingy 0.43 WHIP and Trent Thornton’s 0.50 WHIP underscoring the quality of former Jays arms now pitching elsewhere, and Eric Lauer earned a win with a tidy 1.42 ERA and sub‑1.00 WHIP.

Looking at the season‑to‑date ledger, first‑baseman Ty France leads the ex‑Jay hitters with a .864 OPS, closely followed by catcher Gabriel Moreno’s .850 OPS, while the most effective former Jays pitcher has been Bryan Baker of the Dodgers, whose 1.52 ERA and 0.89 WHIP have kept him among the league’s elite relievers. Jacob Waguespack, now with Detroit, also shines with a 1.67 ERA and a career‑best 0.81 WHIP.

In the news, Matt Chapman of the Giants was forced to undergo season‑ending core‑muscle surgery, ending a $100 million contract with a void at third base. Daulton Varsho was dealt from Toronto to the Houston Astros on August 3, reuniting him with former Arizona teammate Christian Walker. Eric Lauer, who departed Toronto in May, was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers and has revived his career with a solid start. Jacob Waguespack, acquired by the Tigers in June, has impressed with a 1.52 ERA and 0.89 WHIP over his recent outings. Former Jays reliever Jeff Hoffman inked a long‑term deal with the Minnesota Twins, extending his stay in the majors through 2027.

Next week the Blue Jays will travel to the Tampa Bay Rays, where they may encounter ex‑Jay arms Steven Matz and Bryan Baker, before heading to Yankee Stadium to square off with the New York Yankees, where former teammate Ryan Yarbroughex could appear on the mound.
